How lucky are you?

There are approximately 6733 languages in the world today.  371 have the whole Bible, 960 have the New Testament.  902 have a scripture portion, 1500 in progress and 3000 with nothing – that’s about 250 million people with nothing.  So if you’ve got a Bible in your language, your pretty blessed… but the question is, do you appreciate that fact???

The picture below shows me reading the Bible in Sudan… where I was doing some teaching.  I taught approximately 100 pastors, only 10 of whom had Bibles… makes ya think!!

Blessed is what I am! I am able to access the Bible in a number of versions! I have about 10 in 5 different versions! I can access others on the internet and I listen to CD’s. I have access to various commentaries and Bible dictionaries… I realise I take all this for granted but I reminded of the fact that not everybody has this! I am humbled to be living in a free country!

We are truly blessed in this country. I have Bibles in NIV, NLT (with red bits!), The Living Bible, the Amplified Bible, NKJV, NASB, NRSV and The Message. There are many other versions of the Bible too, all designed to help differing ages and level of understanding to get into this great Book. Available in digital format too… there’s no excuse NOT to read the Bible and have your life radically changed by it. (All products are available from River Resources!!) ;-)

I cant help but wonder why some of the countries where Jesus walked etc (i.e. Eygpt) have to have secret christians where as here in England we are so far away from it all yet we have so much freedom… it just baffles (<- spelling??) me some times the irony of it all like my dad went and worked in Eygpt and this guy (his translator) took him to one side and asked whether he was a christian or not and when my dad answered yes he pulled down his sleve to reveal a tattoo of the cross on his wrist which was the secret christians sign and said "me too"

Wow how blessed am I to have not just one but numerous bibles in my house! Having attended your church as a guest last Sunday and being challenged to read the bible more, this week I have found myself picking up the bible to read more and more and for longer periods of time than I have for ages. Father has been calling me back to his Word more and more this last year or two and I’m so grateful for his persistence and faithfulness to me. The desire to read the bible is increasing in me. No longer do I read it once in a while because I feel I should, but I read it nearly every day for at least 10 mins (depending on how long my kids leave me in peace for!), sometimes 2 or 3 times a day on a good day. It’s great!
