Discovering the will of God
Hi Everyone,
This month we are looking at the subject of Discovering God’s will for our lives. Often we view God’s will as some out-there, magical thing which we long to understand but what actually does the Bible say about it?
In light of Biblical teaching I believe we can learn that God’s will takes shape in 2 main categories – (1) His redemptive plan for mankind (2) how we outwork his salvation plan in our lives. This then can be split down into 2 more areas – (1) his general will (2) his specific will.
In line with God’s general will for our lives we can see from the teaching in the Bible that God requires 2 things from us – firstly that we become people who take hold of the opportunities we have so that we can go grow deeper in him, rooting our lives in him. Secondly he requires us to be people who take hold of the opportunities we have to share his love with those around us through meeting needs and loving our neighbour as we would love ourselves.
By understanding this part of God’s general will for our lives I believe that knowing God’s will suddenly becomes a daily focus and empowerment for our lives which we can confidently walk in rather than something which we are waiting round for to receive.
In your life, what does the will of God mean to you? What are you currently doing to outwork his will in your life? What questions do you have about his will? Through our discussions lets help one another in embracing the fullness of everything God has for us. Discuss……..

One of the things I have always struggled with is the question (what does God want me to do with my life?)
Unfortunately I did not get to listen to Gavin last Sunday as my kids where being noisy & so took then out of the main hall. So I logged on today to listen to the podcast & unfortunately its not on yet so I look forward to when it does.
However I have just listened to the final session from John Andrews as again I had the kids with my that week.
From that and reading Gavin’s home page I think I am trying to walk before I can run. I seem to go through stages where one month I am in the bible every day & praying everyday and although life is good I then get frustrated as if by magic a sign will pop up & tell me exactly what to do & then my busy life takes over and once I have been away from the bible for a few days I seem to find it hard to get back in to it & my busy hectic life takes over for a few weeks.
I find it really hard to not allow that to happen with so much going on all the time.
But what I possibly need to realise is that maybe the answer to my question is that right now what God wants from me is me. I am going to really try hard to kepp staying focused with Gods word. I need to think about how I can do more as a christian. I have never thought about the fact that unless you do something you don’t believe in it and maybe there’s a lot I say I believe in but don’t actually do. So one step at a time, firstly try learn from the bible. Then live by what I learn & hopefully this will then help be to live out God’s general will & then maybe God will show me the next step.

Lovin’ the series. The love the idea Gavin is exploring of the will of God being in so much of the stuff God has already revealed. If we learned to grow and go… what a difference it would make. Too many see the will of God as a place, an event, a ministry… all of which are really important… but if we saw the will of God also as a life well lived, then perhaps the place, even and ministry would slot into place so much easier. Keep preaching it Gavin… excellent stuff.

We really enjoyed this series, even though we missed a couple due to holidays away which we hope to catch up with on the pod cast. Love the way you always get it across in an easy to understand way. It has helped us re focus on the general call that God has called all christians to do believing that by doing so his specific will and purpose will be revealed to us. It was really encouraging to hear your testimony of how God directed your steps.
Great Stuff Gavin.
