Introducing The Hub

After months of waiting and much speculation, it has now been announced that the new name for Rotherham New Life Christian Centre will be The Hub Christian Community.

The new name, look and website will go live from Sunday 6th June 2010.

But why The Hub? Basically , a hub is a centre around which other things revolve and/or from which they radiate. We want our name to reflect our activities by being a hub for Gathering, Equipping, Resourcing and Sending.

Below are artistic representations of what the new signage on The Hub Centre will look like.

Christine's Story

Christine's Story

Christine’s life was dramatically changed following an encounter with God on the morning of the day she had decided to end her life due to intolerable emotional and physical abuse in her marriage. She was desperate and could not contemplate carrying on. God spoke very clearly and personally into her life that morning, assuring her of His love for her. He told her that if she would completely surrender her life into His hands, He would change it completely through the amazing plans and purposes He had for her future. Chris immediately recommitted her life and future to Him.

A while later in October, Christine attended a Missions Conference at Rotherham New Life Christian Centre, where the speaker gave an invitation to those who felt a call to go on a mission trip to visit schools and orphanages in Zimbabwe and minister to needy children. Christine felt a strong urge to respond and did so. This was amazing since she disliked flying, hot weather, and particularly children! In fact, she had spent many years working in and managing Nursing Homes for the elderly. At this time, in the natural, it was impossible for her to go as her resources were stretched to the limit but God is the God of the impossible and He provided all that she needed to make the trip.

In May 2003, Christine set off. She said that as she left the plane and put her feet on Zimbabwean soil, she felt ‘at home’. Visiting the children in orphanages and schools, she experienced emotions she had never felt before – a great love for these children overwhelmed her and she could not stop crying. After much seeking of God for her future, Chris returned to Zimbabwe a year later and during this trip God confirmed to her that her future lay in caring for and loving the orphans of this land. She was actually offered the post of Manager of Ivordale Children’s Orphanage by Compassion Ministries whilst on this second trip. On her return home she began to make preparations for her future in Zimbabwe.

God was indeed faithful and so as she made her preparations, God prepared her heart! For her first three months in Zimbabwe, she worked hard at building relationships with the staff and children at Ivordale, loving them and caring for them. By the time she returned to the UK, she knew that her destiny was sealed and although glad to see family and friends, she was anxious to settle back in Zimbabwe again, this time for ten months. She did transform the staff, children and conditions whilst at Ivordale, but after a while God moved her on.

Since then, Christine has visited other orphanages, hospitals, clinics and outreaches to children with HIV/Aids and her ministry has grown and developed in various ways. She has been involved in many projects which have helped many children, families, schools and orphanages. She has ministered to physical, spiritual and financial needs in many areas and situations. Some have had homes and businesses financed by her, some provided with land and seeds to grow food, and many children provided with school fees and uniforms. She is totally committed to ‘making a difference in lives and making God’s name famous in our world.’ She is passionate about providing the lost with ‘a hope and a future’

One project that is very important to her she has called Truthformation. This is teaching the true facts on HIV/Aids to children especially. There are many cruel and life destroying myths which are rife amongst the people of Zimbabwe and especially harmful to vulnerable children. Her aim is to educate children by leading them into the truth about this dreadful and rampant disease as well as providing practical, spiritual and financial help.

For quite a while now, Christine has been working with Pastor Alan and Dorothy Graham and Child Evangelism Fellowship, trying to improve the social care of some of the orphanages they are involved with. More recently however, she has become the Manager of a home which Pastor Alan has opened for abandoned babies. She is not only managing the home but also training the Zimbabwean staff to our NVQ standards in Child Care. She is in her element now as she has spent many years as a nurse, social worker, manager, trainer and inspector of homes here in Britain and is in effect doing all of them at once in Zimbabwe. She is a very highly qualified and talented lady!

Even when Christine is home for a brief break of two months each year, she is ceaselessly working to raise the profile of the plight of the poor in Zimbabwe by going into schools, speaking in churches and visiting many people.

Through her church in Zimbabwe Christine also runs a Comfort Ministry which has a great many arms of outreach supported by members of the church. These are:- Providing stationery for schools, knitting hats, gloves, scarves, Christmas parties, training & counselling for HIV/Aids, knitting classes, providing Bibles, food parcels, prayer line, sending cards to the sick, setting up pre-schools, providing clothes, birthday cards to old peoples’ homes, gifts for newborn babies, library, Jacobs Well coffee shop, feeding programmes, hospital visits, supporting clinics, phone cards, Jesus plaques, providing boots, fun days.

As you can see, Christine’s ministry to the people of Zimbabwe is very wide ranging. Wherever she sees a need she tries her utmost to fulfil it and at the same time share the love of God with those concerned. She is totally devoted to that land and its people and willing to spend her all for them, so long as God receives all the glory.

Dear All,

Greetings and love from Zimbabwe. I arrived back Saturday morning after a very good flight. Was I favoured – wow - I could not have been treated better by everyone if I was the Queen of England.
I sailed through customs, people kept coming up to talk to me and others kept smiling and waving both in the Airport and on plane. How wonderful.

I was met at Airport by very, very hot sunshine. Dorothy, bless her, picked me up and we went straight to her house for a barbeque. It was to celebrate my return, Dorothy and Alan’s departure to America and of course darling Kuda’s 2nd and Hope’s 1st birthdays.

All the staff were there from Jabulani, what an incredible moment it was. I was home at last.
How the babies have grown. The biggest change was in Blessing. She is still small but has put on weight, especially on her face.

Kuda is undergoing intensive physio and they have made her a stander, so it is easier to feed her and better for her digestion, expanding her lungs and strengthening her bones. Daniel has put a lot of weight on and is very heavy to carry. Hope and Grace are walking well and both shout Nannan - I love it! The newest baby, Joseph, is doing so well and lives in the same room as Kuda. We are so blessed to have such wonderful babies. Things have been very busy since my return and several projects have already begun, but I would like to share them in more detail in the following newsletters.

I want to thank you all for your love and support whilst I was back in Rotherham. You are all wonderful. It has been great meeting new people and I hope I will see you all again next year. I’m sorry I missed seeing certain people but you are in my thoughts and prayers. But in the mean time have a super Christmas and don’t forget the true meaning of Christmas!

Lots of love, In His service,

Greetings, in the name of Jesus.

I trust this letter finds you all well. It is Friday morning 7am and only a few minutes ago I walked into work to be greeted with a ‘song’ by Grace and Hope saying ‘It’s our Christine’. I said it’s Nannan, so they said ‘it’s our Nannan.’ Of course I had to hug and kiss them and do my usual greetings. I went into Kuda and said –Good morning my little sweetheart and she blew a big ‘raspberry’ and smiled so much. Blessing, who is just about walking, wanted me to dance with her. Joseph was asleep and Daniel gave me a sloppy smiley kiss. I am so blessed!

As I said in previous newsletters I would like to tell you about some of the projects you are involved in. I can’t thank you enough for your support. So many people have been helped and empowered in so many ways.

Before Christmas in Sunday school we had a competition. We divided it into age groups. They were all given the task to make a Christmas card. It had to be all their own work and signed by their parents – what a lot of talent. It was difficult to pick one winner from each group. They thought the prizes were fabulous. Thank you Justin, for your support in this.

We had a great Christmas party, well, several actually with lots of fun games and food. A day to remember for each of the children, especially those in the rural areas. I wish you all could have seen their smiles. Well you are the ones that put them there! Thank you for allowing me to share in that. We played pass the parcel, musical chairs and statues (bring back memories to some of you??) Several of you have given books for the library at Renewal fellowship. It is looking really good, with lots of exciting colourful books for the children. Samuel Dozwah is in charge of that and doing a great job. We are thinking for accessability of moving the library into the new youth centre when it is completed.

Talking of “Youth Centre” – thanks go to Rotherham Youth and Sharon for raising funds for this venture. The youth here have already been away for a weekend, all youth have been bought a t-shirt and a seminar put on for youth in the area about purity in relationships and HIV/AIDS. I was very privileged to speak at this and also on National Aids Day, making God’s name famous.

As you will probably know, a lot of parents haven’t the money to send their children to school, so, on your behalf we have been able to do that for many children. Fees, which are paid every 4 months, vary considerably from 5 US for the term to about 60 US in rural areas. It is a lot more in the townships. One such boy you have helped is Increase. He lives on Retreat Farm near Chitungwiza, a very poor area. He is 10 years old. He had to drop out of school last year when his father became sick and his mother ran away. Increase had to take care of his father. To raise money for food and for his father, he worked in peoples fields. You were able to buy his school uniform, shoes and other items needed for school. You also provided food. He is now in school and we are monitoring the situation.

Well I could go on and on, but I will leave that for future newsletters.

God bless and keep you all.

In His service, Christine
